We wished each other Merry Christmas, and now, at the beginning of 2026, we wish each other a Happy New Year.
Kind and thoughtful wishes we hope will come true for ourselves and the ones we love.
This morning, I was thinking about a wish the apostle Paul had. I know, it has been a long time since he wrote his wish in a letter to the believers in Corinth, but his words are valuable nonetheless.
I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened (1 Corinthians 14:5).
Actually, he had two wishes! One, that all believers would speak in tongues, and two, that all believers could prophesy. I wonder what happened to his wish. Wouldn't it be interesting if he could have a look at today's churches?
I am almost sure that he would point out our weak spots and utter the same wish for strengthening our churches. Maybe with a bit more urgency... because after all, his words were based on an ancient wish by Moses.

But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them all!”

Beautiful wishes for the new year, Marja. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteNot the every-day kind of wishes, but I found them very interesting. Thanks Martha Jane. Have a wonderful New Year!
