Are you drowning in too many prayer requests?

Do you feel overwhelmed from time to time because of all the prayer requests you are trying to keep up with?

I do. Let's be honest here. Sometimes, my prayer list gets so long that I end up praying for nothing at all. I just sit there and sigh... Yep, I admit it.

Of course, it should be our privilege and joy to pray for people who ask for specific prayers. But I'd rather do it right on the spot, so I won't forget.

I'd like to keep my list of prayer requests short. God knows what's going on in people's lives, right? He doesn't need me to tell Him. Well, although that may be true, at the same time the Bible calls for us to always be praying. No excuses.

How then, can we effectively, joyfully, and earnestly pray for others?

  • I believe it would really help if we would start thanking God for the person we're praying for. Thankful, because His eyes are on that individual and their needs are known to Him.
  • It would furthermore help to pray specific prayers. Instead of saying 'Lord, bless so and so' we could ask the Lord to give a breakthrough in finances or peaceful solutions in family matters for example.
  • Personally, I always ask the Holy Spirit to talk to that person, to reveal truth, and to give revelation about pressing matters.
Suggestions?
If you have any useful tips or comments on how you handle prayer requests from others, I would love to hear them.

Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

    1. I figured I couldn't be the only one struggling with a long list from time to time, so thanks for commenting. 'There has to be another way to pray', this is often my prayer... especially when prayers do not get answered and I am at a loss for words.

  2. Yes, my prayer list gets longer and longer. I update it each month. It takes me about five days to transfer to a new month. I try to keep people in my prayers for as long as God tells me they need them.
