Big bang or purposeful creation?

Big bang or purposeful creation? A question that is worth a good debate.

Personally, there is no doubt in my mind that God is the Creator of the universe and that He created by speaking words. I have no trouble believing this, simply because I see it confirmed throughout the Bible.

Explosive energy

The amount of power that must have accompanied His words at creation, however, is beyond my understanding. Who knows, there was loud thunder and explosive energy when it all happened...

These past two weeks, I've been meditating on Psalm 33, specifically verse 6. Here it is:

The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born (Psalm 33:6).

No life without His breath

I find this so fascinating. God breathed the word! His breath (ruach in Hebrew) creates. When He breathes, birth takes place. No life without His breath. Read Psalm 104 if you like, fascinating, just fascinating. All of creation depends on God's life-giving breath, this includes the stars.

When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104:30).

Revived

It is no wonder that when we read God's Word, we come alive. We get revived and inspired. It is no wonder that Jesus told his disciples 'The very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life' (John 6:63). God's words are spirit (there is that word again: breath) and life.

Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

[John 20:22]

  1. "God; who has saved us, and has called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to [his] own purpose and grace, which [was] given to us in Christ Jesus before [the] ages of time", 2 Timothy 1:8,9.
It is a wonderful thing that we know about what existed before the ages of time, and can see that everything is according to God's purpose. And I appreciate what you say about God's breath.
Not at all to detract from that we don't actually know how God made the worlds, and the so-called Big Bang, one of these expressions that people use to oversimplify things, isn't incompatible with what is in the Holy Scriptures. But always, God was, and is, in control.

    1. Yeah, that's right, calling creation the big bang oversimplifies things and does not give honor to the creativity involved in making everything as we know it! To God be the glory, forever!
