He referred to the extreme rise in sales of Bibles and books on spirituality in this last quarter; 22% up compared to the same period last year. He furthermore summed up the trouble of this world in one word. No, not government, politics, or climate but simply: Darkness.
He nailed it! Because, if darkness is our problem, light is the solution. A child can understand this, right?
So much evil
Where light appears, darkness is gone. If it is that simple, why then do we continue to experience so much darkness, so much evil in our world? Wouldn't we all choose light, when asked?
I wish it were so, but the Bible tells me something different about the harsh reality: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil (John 3:19).
We need redemption
Men's evil actions don't just go away because we wish them to go away. Wishing for a better world has never changed a thing. We need redemption!
Jesus, the light of God, came into this world to offer exactly that. Peace on earth, goodwill to all men. As with any gift, we have to accept it. We have to make the choice to embrace the light, more than we love to remain in darkness.

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
[John 8:12]

I saw that interview with Cardinal Dolan, too! Yes, the Light of the World has come, but we must choose to follow Him out of the darkness of sin and death. Wonderfully expressed here, Marja. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that the Lord repeats, "I am the light of the world" in John 9 and then anoints and sends the blind man. We need His touch if the light is to shine for us.
