Have you ever wrestled with a problem or challenge? And after a while, you found the key that solved that particular issue? And then you wondered why it took you so long?
I think we've all been there. In the world, there are so-called keys to wisdom, prosperity, long life, success, and freedom.
There are keys for solving puzzles and mathematical questions. There is also a key to life. Have you found it? Have you made the choice to follow Jesus?
Let's take a quick look at the different keys as mentioned in the Bible:
- The key to life
Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life (Deuteronomium 30:19-20). - The key to the house of David
I will give him the key to the house of David—the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them (Isaiah 22:22). - The keys of the Kingdom of Heaven
And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven (Matthew 16:19). - The key to knowledge
What sorrow awaits you, experts in religious law! For you remove the key to knowledge from the people. You don’t enter the Kingdom yourselves, and you prevent others from entering (Luke 11:52). - The keys of death and the grave
I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave (Revelation 1:18).
I find this very interesting. Jesus holds the key of death (Hades). Why? Because He conquered death. The empty grave is proof of that. The key of life, however, is in our hands. Think about that!

Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.
