Have you ever felt physically exhausted? Maybe it was after a long and strenuous hike or a day of hard work in the garden.
A relaxing evening and getting a good night's rest after such a day takes care of the tiredness we feel.
It is possible to wake up the next day, ready to go at it again with enthusiasm and renewed strength.
We can recover from physical tiredness as well as illness, given enough time. It is a different story when we suffer spiritually. Different and difficult.
The human spirit
In Proverbs 18:14, we can read the following: The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit?
That is an excellent question. Well, it is more of a statement, if you ask me. When we endure sickness in our bodies, no matter how serious, we can go through the process when we have a healthy spirit. I mean, people have survived and recovered from terrible ordeals because they did not give up, because they remained strong in spirit. A crushed spirit is a recipe for disaster.
A positive attitude
The Bible confirms the power of a positive attitude in Proverbs 17:22, where it says: A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. Let's face it, when we see our situation as hopeless, it probably will be!
But you know what? God desires to give us that gladness of heart. It is His medicine in times of trouble. We need to protect our heart above all else, for it is the wellspring of life.
A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit (Proverbs 15:13). That speaks of a simplicity and deep wisdom at the same time. Don't you love the riches of Scripture?

Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.
